Do you have trouble sleeping?
One of the elements of Biophilic Design is to have lovely plants in your home. As well as your living areas plants are a great addition to your bedrooms too. Did you know that there are certain types of house plants that can help you sleep well? Plants purify the air and help you breathe better, their air-cleaning properties and other relaxing traits actually help you have a more relaxing and restful night’s sleep. Each plant helps in different ways.
Here’s just a couple of my favorites that I want to share with you today.
Peace Lily
Peace lilies not only look beautiful they are amazing air cleaners. It absorbs mold spores from the air into its leaves. In a NASA study, the leaves, roots, soil and associated microorganisms of plants have been evaluated as a possible means of reducing indoor air pollutants. The peace lily can increase room humidity by up to 5%, which is great for breathing while asleep. Peace lilies only need watering once a week and need little light. They prefer partial shade and have been know to survive in rooms with no windows! Keep away from vents and open doors during the winter if you are in a cold climate as they do not tolerate cold drafts well.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is an air purifier and a medicinal plant. It produces oxygen at night so it will improve the air quality in your bedroom. It is a suculent plant and only needs to be watered heavily once every 2 weeks, once the soil is dry as it maintains moisture within its leaves. An added bonus is that the gel from the leaves can be used to treat minor cuts and burns, sunburn, insect bites, dry skin and it can also help to heal wounds. This plant needs to be kept in a sunny spot to ensure it stays healthy.
There are many other indoor plants that can help you sleep well. I’ll be posting more about some of these amazing plants in future posts.
